I will at least consider making fun of Chevron

There are a ton of jokes to make about the Human Energy campaign from Chevron. This ad above (taken at the Farragut North metro station) basically sums up why most of the country thinks so poorly of oil companies. One, does anyone get credit for considering to do something? No, of course not. Students don’t get half credit for considering to do their homework. I certainly didn’t get anything for considering to go to classes I skipped in college, so why should this clown in the ad deserve anything for considering a hybrid?

This ad is reinforcing the idea that thinking about something, without action, is valuable somehow. It isn’t. We are well beyond considering hybrids, when the Prius has been one of the highest valued cars in the US for the past several years. In fact, this ad is the exact opposite of Human Energy. The campaign should be called Human Neutral, since no one is doing anything remotely close to moving.

What pisses me off the most is that the folks who put this ad together are essentially saying that as long as you think about an issue, you aren’t in idle. Which clearly isn’t grounded in reality at all, because all that this “consideration” for innovation and forward movement has gotten us has been more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and higher energy costs.

Thank you, Chevron, for helping us ruin the planet, one consideration at a time.
